A ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet that aims to induce ketosis, a metabolic state where the body burns fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates.

We first estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, then multiply by an activity factor to get Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). Calories are adjusted for weight goal. Protein is set based on lean body mass or total weight. Carbs are fixed at 25g net, and the remaining calories come from fat.

Protein intake is typically set between 1.6-2.2 g per kg of lean body mass or total body weight. Our calculator uses 2.2 g per kg of lean mass (if body fat is known) or 1.8 g per kg of total weight.
