How to Use the Damage Calculator
Follow these steps to calculate damage with modifiers, critical hits, and defense.
- Enter Base Damage – The initial damage value (e.g., 100). This is required.
- Set Damage Modifier (%) – Additional percentage of base damage (e.g., 50 for +50%). Default: 0.
- Configure Critical Hit – Enter Critical Hit Chance (e.g., 20 for 20%) and Critical Multiplier (e.g., 2 for double damage). Default chance: 0, multiplier: 2.
- Apply Defense – Enter Target Defense (flat reduction) and Defense Reduction (percentage ignored, e.g., 10 for 10%). Defaults: 0.
- Click "Calculate Damage" – The result shows final damage and a breakdown. A critical hit is marked with "(Critical!)".
All values must be non-negative numbers. Use dots for decimals (e.g., 1.5).

Frequently Asked Questions
Damage = (Base Damage * (1 + Modifier%)) - (Target Defense * (1 - Defense Reduction%)). If a critical hit occurs, the result is multiplied by the critical multiplier.
All inputs must be non-negative. Negative values will trigger an error and the calculation will not proceed.
Yes, this calculator provides a generic damage formula that can be adapted to many RPG systems. Adjust the inputs to match your game's mechanics.
