Frequently Asked Questions
The calculator uses the XP thresholds per character level from the Dungeon Master's Guide. The total monster XP is compared to the thresholds for the average party level to determine if the encounter is Trivial, Easy, Medium, Hard, or Deadly.
Sum the XP values of all monsters in the encounter and enter the total. The calculator does not apply encounter multipliers (for multiple monsters) as per DMG optional rule, but you can adjust the total XP accordingly.
The calculator uses the thresholds per character, but the total XP is compared directly. For parties of different sizes, you may need to adjust the total XP using the encounter multiplier from the DMG.
