How to Use the Bowling Calculator

This tool has four independent calculators. Enter your data and click the blue Calculate button for each section.

1. Bowling Average

  • Games Played: Total number of games you've bowled (e.g., 12).
  • Total Pinfall: Sum of all pins knocked down across those games (e.g., 2160).
  • Result: Average = Total Pinfall ÷ Games Played (e.g., 180.00).

2. Strike Percentage

  • Strikes Thrown: Number of strikes you've bowled (e.g., 45).
  • Total Frames Bowled: Total frames played (games × 10; e.g., 120).
  • Result: Strike % = (Strikes ÷ Frames) × 100 (e.g., 37.50%).

3. Spare Percentage

  • Spares Converted: Number of spares you made (e.g., 30).
  • Spare Opportunities: Total chances to convert a spare (e.g., 60).
  • Result: Spare % = (Spares ÷ Opportunities) × 100 (e.g., 50.00%).

4. Handicap Calculator

  • Your Average: Your current bowling average (e.g., 180).
  • Base Score: The league's base score (typically 200).
  • Percentage Factor: The handicap percentage (e.g., 80 for 80%).
  • Result: Handicap = (Base − Average) × Factor%. Minimum is 0. (e.g., 16.00).

Frequently Asked Questions

Your bowling average is total pins divided by games played. For example, if you scored 2,160 pins over 12 games, your average is 180 (2,160 ÷ 12 = 180). Enter your total games and total pinfall to compute instantly.

A strike percentage of 40–50% is considered good for recreational bowlers. Professional bowlers often achieve 60–70% or higher. It's calculated as strikes thrown divided by total frames bowled, multiplied by 100.

Handicap = (Base Score − Your Average) × (Percentage Factor ÷ 100). For example, with a 180 average, base 200, and 80% factor: (200 − 180) × 0.80 = 16 pins per game. Handicap cannot be negative; a higher average results in a lower handicap.
