How to use this tool?
This calculator analyzes statically determinate Warren or Pratt trusses with 2–5 panels under downward point loads at interior bottom joints. All inputs use metric units (meters and kN).
- Select Truss Type – Choose Warren (diagonals alternate tension/compression) or Pratt (diagonals in tension, verticals in compression under gravity).
- Set Number of Panels – Enter an integer between 2 and 5. More panels increase member count but keep the analysis simplified.
- Define Geometry – Enter Span (total length in meters) and Height (vertical rise in meters). Panel length = span ÷ panels.
- Specify Load – Enter the Point Load (kN) applied at each interior bottom joint (supports excluded). Total load = (panels − 1) × load.
- Click Calculate – The tool computes reactions and approximate member forces using method of joints. Results show chord forces (top in compression, bottom in tension) and diagonal/vertical forces.
Note: Forces are approximate for educational use. For precise design, use specialized structural analysis software.

Frequently Asked Questions
Warren and Pratt trusses with up to 5 panels.
The point load is applied at each interior bottom joint (excluding supports). For example, a 3-panel truss has 2 interior joints, each carrying the specified load.
The truss is statically determinate, joints are pinned, loads are applied only at joints, and members are straight. The analysis uses method of joints with simplified approximations.
