Reinforcement Calculator Guide

This calculator computes the required tension steel reinforcement area (As) for a rectangular reinforced concrete beam, based on the Whitney stress block method (ACI 318). All inputs are in metric units (mm and MPa).

  1. Enter beam dimensions: Beam Width (b) and Effective Depth (d) in millimeters.
  2. Enter material strengths: Concrete compressive strength (f'c) and steel yield strength (fy) in MPa.
  3. Enter design moment: Mu in kN·m (positive or zero).
  4. Set strength reduction factor: φ (default 0.9, range 0.5–1.0).
  5. Click "Calculate" to compute the required As in mm².
  6. The result shows the required steel area and the formula used. If the calculated As is less than the minimum reinforcement, the minimum value is used.

Frequently Asked Questions

It calculates the required area of steel reinforcement (As) for a rectangular concrete beam under flexure, based on ACI 318 code.

Beam width (b), effective depth (d), concrete compressive strength (f'c), steel yield strength (fy), design moment (Mu), and strength reduction factor (φ).

If Mu = 0, the required As is the minimum reinforcement area based on code.
