How to Use the Mana Curve Calculator
- Enter card counts: For each CMC (0 to 7+), input the number of cards in your deck at that cost. Use whole numbers (0 or more).
- Calculate: Click the Calculate Mana Curve button or press Enter on any input field.
- Review results: The output shows:
- Recommended Lands – optimal number of lands for your curve.
- Mana Sources – same as lands (since only lands are counted).
- Breakdown – total cards, average CMC, and non-land count.
- Adjust as needed: The formula uses average CMC to estimate lands (clamped between 16 and 44). Tweak your card counts and recalculate to fine-tune.
Tip: All inputs must be non-negative integers. If you see an error, check for empty or negative values.

Frequently Asked Questions
A mana curve shows the distribution of converted mana costs (CMC) in your deck. A smooth curve helps ensure you have plays each turn.
The calculator uses a linear model based on average CMC: for low curves more lands are added, and for high curves additional lands are recommended, clamped between 16 and 44.
Yes, it works for any format. Adjust the number of cards accordingly (typically 60 for constructed, 40 for limited).
