How to use this tool?
This calculator helps you assign ability scores using the D&D 5e point buy system. You have 27 points to spend on six abilities, each starting at a base of 8 and can be raised to a maximum of 15 (before racial bonuses).
- Select a score for each ability (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma) using the dropdown menus. Each option shows the score and its point cost (e.g., 14 costs 7 points).
- Click "Calculate" to see your total points used and remaining points.
- Check the result: A green alert shows your total points (must be ≤27). A red alert appears if you exceed 27 points—reduce some scores to fix it.
- Review the breakdown below the result for a detailed list of each score and its cost.
Note: Scores below 8 or above 15 are not allowed in this calculator. All values must be between 8 and 15.
