At 1st level, you gain the maximum of your class's hit die plus your Constitution modifier. For each level after 1st, you gain the average (rounded up) of your hit die plus your Constitution modifier. This calculator uses the average values (e.g., d12 average is 7, d10 is 6, d8 is 5, d6 is 4).

You can input negative values down to -5. The calculator will subtract that amount per level. However, your hit points cannot be reduced below 1 per level due to a negative modifier (this calculator does not enforce that minimum, so adjust accordingly).

No, it only calculates base HP from class, level, and Constitution. You can manually add bonuses like Tough (+2 HP per level) to the result.
