How to Use the GKI Calculator
This calculator computes your Glucose Ketone Index (GKI), a ratio that helps assess your level of ketosis. It uses your blood glucose and ketone levels.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Enter Blood Glucose (mg/dL): Type your blood glucose value in the first field (e.g., 90). Only mg/dL is supported.
- Enter Blood Ketones (mmol/L): Type your blood ketone level in the second field (e.g., 1.5). Only mmol/L is supported.
- Click "Calculate GKI": Press the button to compute your result.
- Read the Output: Your GKI value and a brief interpretation (e.g., "Nutritional ketosis") will appear below. The formula and step-by-step breakdown are also shown.
Important Notes
- Both inputs must be positive numbers. Invalid entries will show an error.
- The formula used: GKI = Glucose (mg/dL) / (Ketones (mmol/L) × 18)
- Interpretation ranges: <1 = Therapeutic ketosis, 1–3 = Nutritional ketosis, 3–9 = Low ketosis, >9 = Not in ketosis.

Frequently Asked Questions
GKI stands for Glucose Ketone Index. It is a ratio of blood glucose to ketones, used to assess metabolic state, especially in ketogenic diets.
GKI = Blood Glucose (mg/dL) / (Blood Ketones (mmol/L) × 18). The factor 18 converts ketones from mmol/L to mg/dL.
A GKI below 1 indicates therapeutic ketosis, between 1 and 3 indicates nutritional ketosis, and above 9 suggests not in ketosis.
