Frequently Asked Questions

The composite score is calculated as: (Multiple Choice Raw Score × 1.25) + (Free-Response Raw Score × 3.125). The multiple choice raw score is the number correct minus one-fourth of the number incorrect. The free-response raw score is the sum of your scores on the six free-response questions (each scored 0-4).

The cutoffs used are: Composite ≥ 70 → AP Score 5; 60-69 → 4; 48-59 → 3; 35-47 → 2; below 35 → 1. These are approximate and may vary slightly by year.

This calculator provides an estimate only. Actual AP scores are determined by the College Board using a process that may adjust cutoffs slightly. Use this as a rough guide.
