How to Use the Stoichiometry Calculator
This calculator converts amounts between substances in a chemical reaction using mole ratios. Follow these steps:
- Enter a balanced chemical equation in the format:
Reactant1 + Reactant2 -> Product1(e.g.,H2 + O2 -> H2O). Use->between sides. - Select the known substance (the one you have an amount for) and the unknown substance (the one you want to find).
- Enter the known amount as a positive number.
- Choose the units for both known and unknown amounts:
- Moles – direct mole-to-mole conversion.
- Grams – requires molar mass (see step 5).
- Liters – for gases at STP (22.4 L/mol).
- Provide molar masses in the format:
Formula1:mass1, Formula2:mass2(e.g.,H2:2, O2:32, H2O:18). Required only if using grams. - Click Calculate. The result shows the unknown amount in the chosen unit.
Note: The calculator assumes a 1:1 mole ratio between substances. For accurate results, ensure your equation is balanced and adjust coefficients manually if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Enter a chemical equation with reactants and products separated by '->'. Specify the known substance, amount, and unit, then the unknown substance and desired unit. Provide molar masses for each compound. Click Calculate to get the result.
Moles, grams, and liters (for gases at STP, 22.4 L/mol).
The calculator assumes the equation is balanced. For simplicity, coefficients are not parsed; each substance is considered with coefficient 1. For accurate results, ensure your equation is balanced.
