How to Use the Roasting Turkey Times Calculator
- Enter Turkey Weight – Type the weight of your turkey in pounds (lbs). Use a decimal for partial pounds (e.g., 12.5). Must be greater than 0.
- Select Stuffing – Choose Unstuffed or Stuffed. Stuffed turkeys take longer (15 min/lb vs 13 min/lb).
- Choose Doneness – Pick your desired internal temperature: 165°F (Well Done), 160°F (Medium), or 155°F (Medium Rare). Lower temperatures reduce cooking time slightly.
- Calculate – Click the Calculate Roasting Time button. The result shows estimated total time (e.g., "3 hr 15 min").
Formula Used: Weight (lbs) × adjusted minutes per pound. The base rate (13 or 15 min/lb) is reduced by 0.4 minutes for every 5°F below 165°F.
Note: All inputs are in imperial units (pounds, °F). Always verify doneness with a meat thermometer for safety.

Frequently Asked Questions
The calculation uses standard guidelines (13 min/lb unstuffed, 15 min/lb stuffed) and adjusts for doneness. Actual times may vary based on oven calibration, turkey shape, and starting temperature. Always use a meat thermometer to ensure safety.
Both methods work, but unstuffed turkeys cook more evenly and quickly. If stuffing, ensure the stuffing reaches 165°F internally. The calculator adjusts time accordingly.
The formula is linear, so it works for larger turkeys. However, very large turkeys may require additional time due to thermal mass. Monitor with a thermometer.
