How to Use the PFT Calculator
This calculator determines your FEV1/FVC ratio to assess lung function patterns.
- Enter FEV1 (Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second) in liters. Use a positive number, e.g., 2.50.
- Enter FVC (Forced Vital Capacity) in liters. Must be greater than FEV1, e.g., 3.00.
- Enter Age in years (optional for display).
- Select Gender (optional for display).
- Click Calculate.
Result: The ratio = (FEV1 ÷ FVC) × 100%. A ratio < 70% suggests an obstructive pattern (e.g., COPD, asthma). A ratio ≥ 70% indicates normal or restrictive pattern.
All inputs must be positive numbers, and FVC must exceed FEV1.

Frequently Asked Questions
Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) measures lung function, including how much air you can inhale and exhale.
A ratio less than 70% often indicates obstructive lung disease like COPD or asthma.
Normal FEV1/FVC ratio is typically above 70-80% depending on age and gender.
