How to Use the Pavement Calculator

This calculator estimates the volume, material weight (in tons), and cost for a rectangular pavement area. All measurements must be in imperial units (feet and inches).

  1. Enter Length and Width in feet (e.g., 100 ft, 12 ft).
  2. Enter Depth in inches (e.g., 6 in).
  3. Select Material: Asphalt (density 0.055 tons/ft³) or Concrete (density 0.075 tons/ft³).
  4. Enter Cost per Ton in dollars (e.g., 120).
  5. Click Calculate to see:
    • Volume in cubic feet (ft³)
    • Material needed in tons
    • Estimated total cost

Note: All inputs must be positive numbers. Cost per ton can be zero. The formula used is displayed in the results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Multiply the length, width, and depth (converted to feet) to get cubic feet. For example, 100 ft x 12 ft x 0.5 ft = 600 ft³.

Asphalt density is approximately 0.055 tons per cubic foot, and concrete density is about 0.075 tons per cubic foot.

After calculating the tonnage, multiply by the cost per ton (e.g., $120 per ton) to get the total material cost.
