How to use this tool?
This calculator estimates the optimal number of lands for your MTG deck based on your mana curve and average mana value (CMC). Follow these steps:
- Enter Average CMC (0–20): The average mana value of your non-land cards. Default is 3.0.
- Enter Total Cards (40–250): Your deck size (typically 60 for Constructed, 40 for Limited).
- Enter Mana Curve (optional): A comma-separated list of card counts per CMC, starting from CMC 0. Example:
10,8,6,4,2,1means 10 cards at CMC 0, 8 at CMC 1, etc. This helps validate your average CMC. - Click Calculate Lands.
The result shows the recommended number of lands, calculated as: Lands = Total Cards × (Average CMC / (Average CMC + 2)) + 2. If you provided a mana curve, the calculator also shows the computed average CMC from the curve for comparison.
Tip: For a 60-card deck with average CMC 3.0, the formula suggests about 38 lands. Adjust based on your deck’s ramp and draw spells.

Frequently Asked Questions
It uses a formula that considers your deck's average mana value (CMC) and total cards to estimate the optimal number of lands: Lands = Total Cards * (Avg CMC / (Avg CMC + 2)) + 2.
A mana curve shows the number of cards at each converted mana cost (CMC). Enter the counts separated by commas for CMC 0,1,2,3,4,5,6+ in order. For example, '10,8,6,4,2,1' means 10 cards at CMC 0, 8 at CMC 1, etc.
You can leave the mana curve field empty and just provide the average CMC. The calculator will use the average CMC directly.
