Frequently Asked Questions
Ideal body weight is an estimate of a healthy weight range based on height, gender, and sometimes frame size. It is used as a screening tool and not a definitive measure of health.
Different formulas may suit different populations. The Devine formula is commonly used for medication dosing, while the Hamwi formula is simpler. Our calculator shows results from four formulas to give you a range.
Frame size adjusts the calculated weight: small frame reduces by 10%, large frame increases by 10%. This accounts for differences in bone density and body composition.
