How to Use the Freight Class Calculator
- Enter dimensions in inches: Length, Width, Height (all must be positive numbers).
- Enter weight in pounds (lbs) – must be positive.
- Enter declared value in dollars ($) – can be zero or positive.
- Select handling requirements: Standard, Fragile, or Hazardous.
- Click "Calculate Freight Class".
What the calculator does:
- Computes volume in cubic feet (length × width × height ÷ 1728).
- Calculates density (weight ÷ volume in lbs/ft³).
- Assigns a base freight class (50 to 500) based on density ranges.
- Adds 2 classes for fragile items, 3 for hazardous items.
- If declared value exceeds $50,000, the class is at least 150.
Output: Freight class number, density value, and a brief explanation of the calculation.
All inputs must be in imperial units (inches, pounds, dollars).
