This calculator estimates the lumber needed for a wall frame using imperial units (feet and inches). It assumes 2x6 lumber for studs and plates.
- Enter Wall Length (ft) – The horizontal length of the wall in feet (e.g., 12).
- Enter Wall Height (ft) – The vertical height of the wall in feet (e.g., 8).
- Select Stud Spacing – Choose between 16" or 24" on center.
- Add Extra Studs – Optional: add extra studs for corners, openings, or waste (e.g., 2).
- Click "Calculate" – The results will show:
- Studs – Total number of vertical studs needed.
- Plates – Number of 16-foot plates required (3 plates per wall).
- Board Feet – Total lumber volume in board feet (based on 2x6 dimensions).
Tip: All inputs must be positive numbers. Use decimals for partial feet (e.g., 12.5). The formula accounts for one extra stud at the end of the wall.
