How to Use the Candle Wax Calculator
This calculator helps you determine the total wax and fragrance oil needed for your candle-making project. All measurements are in fluid ounces (oz) and percentages.
- Enter Number of Candles – Input how many candles you plan to make (must be a positive whole number).
- Enter Container Volume – Specify the volume of each container in fluid ounces (e.g., 8 oz).
- Select Wax Density – Choose your wax type from the dropdown (e.g., Soy Wax at 0.86 oz per oz). This adjusts the wax weight per volume.
- Set Fragrance Load – Enter the fragrance oil percentage (0–15%) based on the wax weight (e.g., 6% is common).
- Click "Calculate" – The results show:
- Total Wax Needed (oz) – for all candles.
- Total Fragrance Oil (oz) – for all candles.
- Weight per Candle (oz) – wax + fragrance per candle.
Tip: Ensure inputs are valid (positive numbers, integer for candles, fragrance between 0–15%). Invalid entries will show red error highlights.

Frequently Asked Questions
Enter the number of candles you want to make, the volume of each container in fluid ounces, select the wax type (density), and the fragrance load percentage. Then click Calculate to see the total wax and fragrance oil needed.
Wax density is the weight of wax per unit volume. Different waxes (soy, paraffin, beeswax) have different densities, which affects how much wax you need to fill a container by weight.
Fragrance load is the percentage of fragrance oil relative to the wax weight. Typical candle fragrance loads range from 6% to 10%. Exceeding 15% may cause issues with burning.
