How to Use the Caffeine Half-Life Calculator

This calculator estimates how much caffeine remains in your body after a given time, based on a standard half-life of 5 hours (adjustable).

  1. Enter Caffeine Dose (mg): Type the amount of caffeine consumed (e.g., 200 mg for a typical coffee). Must be a positive number.
  2. Set Half-Life (hours): Default is 5 hours. Adjust if you know your personal half-life (e.g., due to pregnancy or medication). Must be greater than 0.
  3. Specify Hours Since Consumption: Enter how many hours have passed since you consumed the caffeine. Must be 0 or more.
  4. Click "Calculate" or press Enter in any input field. The results appear below.
  5. Results:

    • Estimated Caffeine Remaining: Shows the amount (in mg) still in your system.
    • Time to Elimination (99%): Approximate hours until only 1% of the dose remains.

Note: All inputs are in metric units (mg and hours). The formula uses exponential decay: Remaining = Dose × 0.5(hours / half-life).
