How to Use the Ark Animal Taming Calculator
This calculator estimates the resources needed to tame a creature in Ark: Survival Evolved. Follow these steps:
- Enter Creature Level – Input the creature's level (e.g., 150). Must be 1 or higher.
- Select Creature Name – Choose from the dropdown (e.g., Rex, Argentavis).
- Choose Taming Method – Pick "Knockout (Torpor)" or "Passive (Feed)". Note: Only Knockout is supported for listed creatures.
- Pick Food Type – Select the food you'll use (e.g., Raw Meat, Kibble). Ensure it's valid for the creature/method.
- Click "Calculate" – View results:
- Total Food – Units of food needed.
- Narcotics Needed – Number of narcotics (each restores 40 torpor).
- Taming Time (min) – Estimated time in minutes.
Formula: Base food = 100, plus foodPerLevel × (level - 1). Torpor = total food × 1. Narcotics = torpor ÷ 40 (rounded up). Time = food ÷ torpor per second.
Tip: All values are in-game units. No metric/imperial conversion needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
The calculator uses base values and per-level scaling from official Ark: Survival Evolved data. It provides a good estimate, but actual taming may vary due to server settings, creature stats, and taming effectiveness.
The calculator supports Raw Meat, Cooked Meat, Raw Prime Meat, Cooked Prime Meat, Kibble (Basic), Berries, and Vegetables. Not all food types are available for every creature.
Currently, the calculator only supports knockout taming. Passive taming (e.g., for creatures like the Equus or Moschops) is not implemented in this version.
