How to use this tool?
This calculator estimates your AP US History score (1–5) based on your raw section scores.
- Enter your Multiple Choice (MC) scores:
- MC Correct: Number of correct answers (0–55).
- MC Wrong: Number of incorrect answers (0–55). Unanswered questions count as 0 wrong.
- Enter your Free-Response scores:
- Short Answer (SAQ): Score out of 9 (e.g., 5.5).
- DBQ: Score out of 7 (e.g., 4.0).
- Long Essay (LEQ): Score out of 6 (e.g., 3.5).
- Click "Calculate Score" to see your estimated AP score (1–5) displayed in blue.
How it works: The calculator applies the College Board formula: Composite = (MC correct – 0.25 × MC wrong) + (SAQ × 1.111) + (DBQ × 3.571) + (LEQ × 2.083). The composite is then mapped to an AP score using standard cutoffs (92+ = 5, 74–91 = 4, 54–73 = 3, 35–53 = 2, below 35 = 1).
All inputs must be within the specified ranges. Use decimals for partial scores (e.g., 4.5).

Frequently Asked Questions
The composite score is calculated as: (MC correct - 0.25 * MC wrong) + SAQ * 1.111 + DBQ * 3.571 + LEQ * 2.083. The composite is then mapped to an AP score of 1-5 based on cutoffs.
Typical cutoffs: 5: composite >= 92, 4: 74-91, 3: 54-73, 2: 35-53, 1: 0-34. These may vary slightly each year.
This calculator provides an estimate based on typical scoring guidelines. Actual scores may vary due to exam difficulty and curve adjustments.
