How to Use the AP Test Score Calculator
- Select a subject from the dropdown menu (e.g., Calculus AB, Biology, Psychology). Each subject has its own maximum raw scores and grade cutoffs.
- Enter your Multiple Choice raw score (the number of correct answers). This must be a non-negative integer.
- Enter your Free Response raw score (the total points earned on free-response questions). This must also be a non-negative integer.
- Click "Calculate Score". The calculator will validate your inputs and show your AP score (1–5) with a description (e.g., "Extremely well qualified").
How it works: The calculator converts your raw scores to percentages, then combines them using a 50% weight for multiple choice and 50% for free response. The resulting composite percentage is compared to subject-specific cutoffs to determine your final AP score. A detailed formula explanation appears below the result.
Note: Maximum raw scores vary by subject (e.g., Calculus AB: MC max 45, FRQ max 54). The calculator will warn you if your input exceeds the allowed maximum.
