Frequently Asked Questions
The composite score is calculated by weighting the multiple-choice section (40 questions, each correct adds 1.25 points) and summing the free-response scores (4 questions, each out of 9). The total composite is then mapped to an AP score of 1-5 based on typical cutoffs.
Typical cutoffs: Composite 110+ = 5, 90-109 = 4, 70-89 = 3, 50-69 = 2, below 50 = 1. These may vary slightly each year.
This calculator provides an estimate based on typical scoring guidelines. Actual AP scores may vary due to curve adjustments. Use it as a study aid.
