Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) is an engineered wood product made from multiple layers of thin wood veneers glued together. It is used for beams, headers, and other structural applications where high strength and dimensional stability are required.
The calculator uses simplified engineering formulas based on bending stress and deflection. The bending span is derived from the flexural formula M = Fb * S, and the deflection span is based on L/360 criteria. The final span is the smaller of the two.
Common LVL beam widths are 1.5, 3.5, 5.25, and 7 inches. Depths range from 5.5 to 20 inches in 1.5-inch or 2-inch increments. Always consult local building codes and engineering tables for final design.
