How to use this tool?

Follow these steps to use the Velocity Banking Calculator:

  1. Enter your current debt balance (e.g., $10,000). This is the total amount you owe.
  2. Enter the annual interest rate (e.g., 18%). Use the percentage value without the % sign.
  3. Enter your minimum monthly payment (e.g., $200). This is the smallest payment required each month.
  4. Enter your extra monthly payment (e.g., $500). This is the additional amount you plan to pay toward the principal each month.
  5. Click Calculate to see results.

What you get:

  • Debt-free time – How long until your debt is paid off (in years and months).
  • Total interest paid – The total interest you’ll pay over the life of the debt.
  • Total payments – The sum of principal and interest paid.

Important notes:

  • All values must be positive numbers. The interest rate must be between 0 and 100.
  • Your total monthly payment (minimum + extra) must exceed the monthly interest to reduce the principal. If not, the calculator will show an error.
  • The calculator assumes all extra payments go directly to the principal each month, and interest is calculated monthly on the remaining balance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Velocity banking is a debt payoff strategy that involves using a line of credit (like a HELOC) or extra payments to reduce principal faster, minimizing interest and shortening the payoff period.

It simulates monthly payments: each month, interest is added to the balance, then your total payment (minimum + extra) is subtracted. The process repeats until the balance reaches zero.

You need your current debt balance, annual interest rate, minimum monthly payment, and any extra amount you plan to pay each month.
