How to use this tool?
Follow these steps to calculate True Airspeed (TAS):
- Enter Indicated Airspeed (IAS) in knots (e.g., 150). Must be a non-negative number.
- Enter Altitude in feet (e.g., 10000). Must be non-negative.
- Enter Temperature in degrees Celsius (e.g., 15). Can be negative.
- Click "Calculate TAS" or press Enter in any input field.
Result: The True Airspeed in knots appears below, along with the formula and your specific calculation steps. All inputs are required and must be valid numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions
True airspeed (TAS) is the actual speed of an aircraft relative to the air mass in which it is flying. It accounts for changes in air density due to altitude and temperature.
Indicated airspeed (IAS) is the speed read directly from the airspeed indicator, which is affected by air density. TAS is IAS corrected for altitude and temperature, giving the true speed through the air.
As altitude increases, air density decreases. To maintain the same dynamic pressure (IAS), the aircraft must move faster through the thinner air, so TAS increases with altitude for a given IAS.
