How to use this tool?
This calculator computes the volume, capacity in liters, and fill volume for rectangular, cylindrical, or spherical tanks.
- Select Tank Shape from the dropdown (Rectangular, Cylindrical, or Spherical).
- Enter dimensions in meters (metric only). Required fields appear based on shape:
- Rectangular: Length, Width, Height
- Cylindrical: Diameter, Height
- Spherical: Diameter
- Optional: Enter a Fill Level (in meters) to calculate the volume of liquid inside the tank. This cannot exceed the tank’s height (or diameter for spherical).
- Click Calculate to see:
- Total Volume in cubic meters (m³)
- Capacity in liters (1 m³ = 1000 L)
- Fill Volume (if provided) in m³ and as a percentage of total volume
- The formula used
Note: All inputs must be positive numbers. Errors (e.g., missing values or fill level exceeding tank size) will appear in a red alert.

Frequently Asked Questions
Multiply the length, width, and height of the tank. The result is in cubic meters.
Yes, enter the fill level (height of liquid) and the calculator uses the spherical cap formula.
All inputs are in meters, volume is in cubic meters, and capacity is in liters.
