How to Use the Rise and Run Calculator
- Enter the Rise – Type the vertical measurement (e.g., 6) into the Rise field. Must be a positive number.
- Enter the Run – Type the horizontal measurement (e.g., 12) into the Run field. Must also be positive.
- Choose a Unit – Select the unit for your measurements from the dropdown: Inches, Feet, Meters, or Centimeters. All inputs should use the same unit.
- Click "Calculate" – The button triggers the calculation. If either field is empty or zero/negative, an error will appear.
- Read the Results – Below the button you'll see:
- Slope – Rise divided by Run (a decimal).
- Angle – The slope angle in degrees.
- Length – The hypotenuse (diagonal distance) in the chosen unit.
Tip: Use consistent units (e.g., both in inches) for accurate results. The calculator works with any positive numbers, whether metric or imperial.

Frequently Asked Questions
Rise is the vertical distance, run is the horizontal distance. They are used to describe the steepness of a slope.
Slope is calculated by dividing the rise by the run (rise/run).
You can use inches, feet, meters, or centimeters for both rise and run.
