How to Use the Profit Calculator
- Enter Revenue – Input your total sales or income in the Revenue field (e.g., 1000). Use positive numbers only.
- Enter Cost – Input your total expenses or cost of goods sold in the Cost field (e.g., 600).
- Calculate – Click the Calculate Profit button or press Enter on your keyboard.
- Review Results – Three metrics appear:
- Profit = Revenue minus Cost (displayed in dollars).
- Profit Margin = (Profit ÷ Revenue) × 100% – shows profitability relative to revenue.
- Markup = (Profit ÷ Cost) × 100% – shows profit relative to cost.
- Check Formula – A step-by-step calculation is shown below the results for clarity.
Note: Both fields must be positive numbers. If Revenue and Cost are both zero, an error appears. If Revenue is zero, margin shows "N/A"; if Cost is zero, markup shows "N/A".

Frequently Asked Questions
Profit margin is the percentage of revenue that is profit (Profit/Revenue*100), while markup is the percentage of cost that is profit (Profit/Cost*100).
Yes, the calculator uses numeric values and does not assume a specific currency. The result is shown in the same unit as your input.
If cost is zero, markup becomes undefined (infinite) because dividing by zero is not possible. The calculator will display 'N/A' for markup in that case.
