How to Use the PaycheckCity Calculator
This calculator estimates your net pay after federal and state taxes, plus deductions. Follow these steps:
- Enter Gross Pay – Your total earnings before any deductions (e.g., 5000). Must be greater than zero.
- Select Pay Frequency – Choose how often you’re paid: Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Semi-Monthly, or Monthly.
- Choose Filing Status – Select Single, Married Filing Jointly, or Head of Household.
- Set Allowances – Enter a number from 0 to 99 (e.g., 2). This adjusts withholding but is not used in the current calculation.
- Add Deductions – Enter Pre-Tax Deductions (e.g., 401k) and Post-Tax Deductions (e.g., insurance). Use 0 if none.
- Set Tax Rates – Pick a State from the dropdown (or “No State Tax”). Enter a Federal Withholding Rate (0–100%, e.g., 12).
- Click “Calculate Net Pay” – Your net pay and a full breakdown appear below.
Formula used: Net Pay = Gross Pay – Pre-Tax Deductions – Federal Tax – State Tax – Post-Tax Deductions. Federal Tax = (Gross Pay – Pre-Tax) × Federal Rate. State Tax = (Gross Pay – Pre-Tax) × State Rate.
Tip: All monetary values are in dollars. Ensure inputs are non-negative and valid numbers.
