Frequently Asked Questions
Osmolarity is a measure of solute concentration per liter of solution, expressed in milliosmoles per liter (mOsm/L). It is commonly used in medicine to assess body fluid balance.
The formula used is: Osmolarity = 2 × Na + Glucose/18 + BUN/2.8, where Na is sodium in mmol/L, Glucose in mg/dL, and BUN in mg/dL.
Normal serum osmolarity ranges from 275 to 295 mOsm/L. Values outside this range may indicate dehydration, overhydration, or other medical conditions.
