How to Use the NJ Child Support Calculator
- Enter Parent Incomes: Input each parent’s gross annual income (e.g., $60,000). Both fields are required.
- Enter Overnights: Provide the number of overnights each parent has per year. They must sum to exactly 365.
- Add Other Children: Enter the number of other children (from other relationships) that either parent supports.
- Include Expenses: Optionally add annual health insurance premiums and other extraordinary expenses (e.g., medical, educational).
- Select Tax Filing: Choose the tax filing status (Single, Married Filing Jointly, or Head of Household).
- Calculate: Click the “Calculate Child Support” button. Results show annual and monthly support amounts.
Important Notes:
- All monetary values must be in US dollars and non-negative.
- Overnights must be whole numbers between 0 and 365, and the two parents’ overnights must total 365.
- The calculator uses simplified NJ guidelines (2024). For incomes above $150,000, a rough estimate is used.
- The result indicates the support the parent with fewer overnights pays to the other parent.
