How to Use the MyUSFinance Minimum Payment Calculator

Follow these steps to calculate your credit card minimum payment, interest charge, and estimated payoff time.

  1. Enter your Current Balance ($) – The total amount you owe on your card (e.g., 2500). Must be 0 or greater.
  2. Enter your Annual Interest Rate (%) – Your card's APR (e.g., 18.99). Must be between 0 and 100.
  3. Set Minimum Payment % of Balance – The percentage of your balance used to calculate the minimum (default is 2%). Enter a value like 2.0.
  4. Set Fixed Minimum Amount ($) – The fixed dollar minimum your card requires (default is $25). Enter an amount like 25.00.
  5. Click "Calculate Minimum Payment" – The calculator will show:
    • Minimum Payment – The greater of (Balance × %) or the fixed amount.
    • Interest This Month – Monthly interest charge based on your APR.
    • Payoff Time – Estimated months/years to pay off the balance if you only make minimum payments. If the minimum doesn't cover interest, you'll see a warning that the balance will never be paid off.

Tip: All inputs must be valid numbers. Negative values or invalid entries will show an error. The calculator assumes monthly compounding.

Frequently Asked Questions

The minimum payment is typically the greater of a percentage of your balance (e.g., 2%) or a fixed dollar amount (e.g., $25). Our calculator uses these inputs to compute the exact minimum due.

Interest charge is calculated as: Balance × (Annual Interest Rate / 12 / 100). This gives the monthly interest based on your current balance.

If the minimum payment is less than the interest charge, your balance will grow over time and you will never pay off the debt. The calculator will warn you in such cases.
