How to Use the IUL Calculator

This calculator estimates the cash value, loan balance, and net surrender value of an Indexed Universal Life (IUL) policy based on your inputs. Follow these steps:

  1. Enter Annual Premium ($): Type the amount you pay each year (e.g., 10000). Use whole numbers or decimals.
  2. Enter Cash Value Growth Rate (%): Input the expected annual growth rate (e.g., 6 for 6%). Use decimals if needed (e.g., 5.5).
  3. Enter Loan Interest Rate (%): Input the annual loan interest rate (e.g., 5 for 5%). Use 0 if no loan is taken.
  4. Enter Years: Specify the number of years the policy runs (e.g., 10). Must be a whole number ≥ 1.
  5. Click "Calculate": Press the button to see results.

Results explained:

  • Total Premiums Paid: Sum of all annual premiums over the years.
  • Cash Value at End: Accumulated cash value assuming premiums are paid at the start of each year (annuity due formula).
  • Loan Balance (if borrowed): Hypothetical loan balance if you borrowed the entire cash value at the start, compounding at the loan rate.
  • Net Surrender Value: Cash value minus loan balance—what you’d get after repaying the loan.

Note: All values are estimates. Growth and loan rates are assumed constant. Use 0% loan rate if no loan is taken.

Frequently Asked Questions

An IUL calculator estimates the cash value growth of an Indexed Universal Life insurance policy based on annual premiums, growth rate, loan interest rate, and time horizon.

Cash value is calculated using the future value of an annuity due formula: Premium * ((1+r)^n - 1)/r * (1+r), where r is the growth rate per period and n is the number of years.

Net surrender value is the cash value minus any outstanding loan balance. It represents the amount you would receive if you surrendered the policy.
