An intercept is a point where a line crosses an axis. The x-intercept is where the line crosses the x-axis (y=0), and the y-intercept is where it crosses the y-axis (x=0).
Set y=0 in the equation y=mx+b and solve for x: x = -b/m (provided m ≠ 0).
A horizontal line y=b has no x-intercept unless b=0 (then all x are intercepts). A vertical line x=a has no y-intercept.
