How to Use the Horse Color Calculator
- Select the Sire (Father) Color from the first dropdown menu. Options: Black, Bay, Chestnut, or Gray.
- Select the Dam (Mother) Color from the second dropdown menu. Same options as above.
- Click the "Calculate" button to see the possible foal colors.
- Review the results: The tool displays a list of possible foal colors and a brief genetic explanation below.
Important Notes:
- Gray is a dominant gene that masks other colors. If either parent is Gray, the foal may be Gray or show the underlying base color from the non-Gray parent.
- Bay is dominant over Black and Chestnut. Black is dominant over Chestnut.
- If both parents are Chestnut, the foal will always be Chestnut.
