Frequently Asked Questions
Coast FI (Financial Independence) is the point where you have enough invested today that, without any further contributions, your investments will grow to your retirement goal by the time you retire.
The Coast FI number is the present value of your retirement goal, discounted by your expected annual return over the number of years until retirement. Formula: Coast FI = Retirement Goal / (1 + Annual Return)^Years.
It assumes a constant annual return rate and no additional contributions. It also assumes you will not withdraw any money until retirement.
