How to use this tool?

This calculator helps you choose the right ceiling fan size based on your room dimensions.

  1. Enter Room Length (ft) – Type the length of your room in feet (e.g., 12).
  2. Enter Room Width (ft) – Type the width in feet (e.g., 12).
  3. Enter Ceiling Height (ft) – Default is 9 ft. Adjust if needed (e.g., 8 or 10).
  4. Click “Calculate” – The tool computes the room area (length × width) and recommends a fan blade span range.
  5. Read the result – The recommended fan size appears, along with a tip for high or low ceilings (downrod or flush mount).

Note: All measurements must be in feet (imperial). Inputs must be positive numbers. The calculator uses area thresholds (e.g., under 75 sq ft → 29–36 inches) to suggest the best fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

The recommended fan size is based on the room's square footage. Smaller rooms need smaller blade spans, while larger rooms require larger fans or multiple fans.

For ceilings over 10 ft, use a downrod mount to lower the fan. For ceilings under 8 ft, choose a flush mount or low-profile fan to maintain safe clearance.

For areas over 400 sq ft, consider multiple fans or a very large fan (56 in+). The calculator gives a baseline recommendation; professional advice may be needed for complex layouts.
