How to use this tool?
Follow these steps to calculate your monthly car payment:
- Enter Loan Amount ($) – The total amount you plan to borrow (e.g., 25000).
- Enter Annual Interest Rate (%) – The yearly interest rate (e.g., 5.5 for 5.5%).
- Enter Loan Term (months) – The repayment period in months (e.g., 60 for 5 years). Must be a whole number.
- Enter Down Payment ($) (optional) – Any upfront payment to reduce the loan principal (e.g., 5000). Leave blank if none.
- Click "Calculate Monthly Payment" or press Enter on any input field.
The result shows your monthly payment, the formula used, and a breakdown of the principal, monthly interest rate, and number of payments. If the down payment exceeds the loan amount, the payment will be $0.00.

Frequently Asked Questions
The monthly payment is calculated using the standard amortization formula: M = P * [r(1+r)^n] / [(1+r)^n - 1], where P is the principal (loan amount minus down payment), r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate divided by 12), and n is the number of monthly payments.
If the interest rate is zero, the monthly payment is simply the principal divided by the number of months (no interest).
Yes, you can optionally enter a down payment. The calculator subtracts it from the loan amount to get the principal. If the down payment equals or exceeds the loan amount, the monthly payment is zero.
