How to use this tool?
This calculator projects the total number of apes after one year based on your current population and rates.
- Enter population counts: Fill in the number of Adult Males, Adult Females, Juveniles, and Infants. These must be whole numbers (0 or more).
- Enter rates:
- Birth Rate: Number of births per adult female per year (e.g., 0.5 means one birth every two years).
- Death Rate: Proportion of the total population that dies per year (enter a decimal between 0 and 1, e.g., 0.1 = 10%).
- Click "Calculate": The button will compute the projected total after one year.
- Read the results:
- Total Apes: The projected population after one year (rounded to the nearest whole number).
- Breakdown: Shows the initial total, number of births and deaths, and the net change.
Note: All inputs must be non-negative. Death rate must be between 0 and 1. If any input is invalid, an error message will appear below the field.

Frequently Asked Questions
It estimates the total number of apes in a troop after one year based on initial counts of adult males, females, juveniles, infants, and birth/death rates.
Total = initial individuals + (births - deaths). Births = adult females * birth rate. Deaths = total individuals * death rate.
It provides a simplified projection. Actual population dynamics depend on many factors not included.
