How to Use the AP Score Test Calculator
- Enter Multiple-Choice Results: Input the number of correct and incorrect answers. Total MC questions cannot exceed 80.
- Enter Free-Response Results: Input the points earned and the total possible points for the free-response section.
- Click "Calculate AP Score": The calculator computes:
- MC Score = Correct − (0.25 × Incorrect)
- FR Score = (Points Earned / Total Points) × 80
- Composite Score = MC Score + FR Score
- Read the Results: Your AP grade (1–5) and composite score appear. The formula is shown below for reference.
Note: All inputs must be non-negative numbers. FR points earned cannot exceed total points. If errors appear, correct the highlighted fields.

The composite score is the sum of the multiple-choice score (correct minus 0.25 times incorrect) and the free-response score (points earned divided by total points, multiplied by 80).
Typically, composite scores of 92 or above yield a 5, 80-91 a 4, 65-79 a 3, 50-64 a 2, and below 50 a 1. These ranges may vary by exam.
