How to Use the AP Lang Exam Calculator
- Enter Multiple Choice Results: Input the number of correct (0–45) and wrong (0–45) answers. Unanswered questions count as 0 wrong.
- Enter Essay Scores: For each of the 3 essays, enter a score between 1 and 9 (whole numbers only).
- Calculate: Click the "Calculate Score" button.
- Read Results: Your AP Score (1–5) and Composite Score will appear. The composite formula accounts for a 0.25 penalty per wrong MC answer and weighted essay totals.
Note: All inputs must be whole numbers within the specified ranges. Invalid entries will show a red border.

The composite score is computed as (MC Correct - 0.25 * MC Wrong) * 1.1111 + (Essay1 + Essay2 + Essay3) * 3.0556. The composite is then mapped to an AP score of 1-5.
The maximum composite score is approximately 180, corresponding to 45 correct MC and 9 on each essay.
Unanswered multiple-choice questions are not counted as wrong, so they do not incur a penalty. Only wrong answers subtract 0.25 point.
