The composite score is calculated as: Multiple Choice raw score = correct answers minus 0.25 × wrong answers (no penalty for unanswered). Free Response raw score = sum of scores for 6 questions (each 0-9). The composite is out of 108. The final AP grade (1-5) is based on composite cutoffs, which may vary slightly each year.

The maximum composite score is 108: 45 points from multiple choice (after penalty) and 54 points from free response (6 questions × 9 points each).

Cutoffs can vary slightly from year to year. This calculator uses typical cutoffs based on historical data: 5: 68+, 4: 54-67, 3: 40-53, 2: 28-39, 1: 0-27. For the most accurate cutoffs, check the official College Board resources.
