Frequently Asked Questions

The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is a multiple-aptitude battery test used by the U.S. military to determine qualification for enlistment and job assignment.

The AFQT (Armed Forces Qualification Test) score is derived from the Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Mathematics Knowledge (MK), and Verbal Expression (VE) scores. VE is calculated from Word Knowledge (WK) and Paragraph Comprehension (PC) as VE = (WK + PC) * 2. The AFQT raw score is AR + MK + VE, which is then converted to a percentile.

Minimum AFQT scores vary by branch: Army requires 31, Navy 35, Marines 32, Air Force 36, and Coast Guard 40. Higher scores may qualify for more job options.
